WOODFORD COUNTY, Ky. (LEX18) — Woodford County Coroner's Office identified Eric John Klette, 40, of Florence, as the man who died in a fatal three-car crash that occurred Sunday afternoon on US-62 Midway Road.
Klette was a Special Olympics Athlete.
Special Olympics KY released a statement following the news of Klette's death:
“All of us in the Special Olympics Kentucky family are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic passing of one of our athletes today in an auto accident as they returned home from a soccer tournament in Versailles. The individual was not participating in the tournament, but had traveled to the tournament to support their friends and teammates. Our thoughts and prayers are with their family and all of the coaches and athletes who knew and loved them.”
The other passengers involved in the crash were taken to Bluegrass Hospital and UK Chandler.
A Versailles Accident Reconstruction Unit is currently investigating the accident.
