DANVILLE, Ky. (LEX 18) — A man was shot and killed by Danville police Tuesday while holding his mother at knifepoint inside a motel room, Danville police Chief Anthony Gray Jr. said.

The shooting happened at the Super 8 motel on the Danville bypass Tuesday morning.

Gray said responding officers "verbally engaged the suspect in attempts to resolve the situation peacefully." The suspect was then shot one time by an officer after the suspect refused to comply, Gray said.

No one else was injured in the incident.

The three officers involved in the shooting have been put on administrative leave while Kentucky State Police investigates the shooting.

This is a developing story. More information will be provided when it becomes available.
