Police: Man charged after allegedly using counterfeit bills

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — A Lexington man has been faced with dozens of charges after allegedly trying to pass phony money at yard sales.

Brian Caplin, 33, was arrested on Saturday morning on South Point Drive after police said a person holding a yard sale caught him trying to pass a counterfeit bill.

When officers arrived, they allegedly found him in possession of 28 counterfeit $100 bills, as well as 10 fake $20 bills.

Police also linked him to a similar incident, where the suspect allegedly used a counterfeit $100 bill to pay for $20 worth of items.

Caplin has been charged with 29 counts of possession of a forged instrument and one count of theft by deception.
