PADUCAH, Ky. (LEX 18) — A western Kentucky police officer has resigned after being arrested for a DUI.

Early Thanksgiving morning, a Paducah police officer observed 27-year-old off-duty officer Nicholas Rolens pull into a parking place and get out of his vehicle.

The officer determined that Rolens appeared to be under the influence and contacted his supervisor. The supervisor went to the scene and also found that Rolens appeared to be under the influence.

Paducah police then handed the case over to the McCracken County Sheriff's Office to avoid any conflict of interest. The sheriff's office then arrested Rolens on a DUI charge.

Later that day, Rolens met with the Paducah police chief.

Rolens reportedly accepted responsibility for his actions and stepped down from the department.
