LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Unshackled By Love Ministries hosted the Freeze for Freedom 5K run Saturday morning.

192 people signed up for the event, with people signing up moments before the run began despite the morning’s rainy weather.

Unshackled By Love is a non-profit that helps helps victims of addiction and human trafficking.

Among the race’s runners were people Unshackled By Love has housed over the last five years.

“You would never be able to pick them out, but our residents are here and two of our residents did do the race,” Jewellan Morrison, the non-profit’s founder, said.

The goal of the Freeze for Freedom race was to raise awareness about human trafficking. Morrison said events like the race also help build community around victims trying to overcome their pasts.

“When they’re out in the community and people are supporting them, they actually cry about that. They are in awe,” said Morrison.
