SCOTT COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — Scott County Sheriff Tony Hampton took to Facebook on Monday night to share his stance on gun control legislation, red flag laws and 2nd Amendment sanctuary counties.
Hampton said that he believes that gun ownership can deter crime and is an "added level of safety for our citizens." He recognized the responsibility in owning guns, but said that law-abiding citizens should not be the ones that are the focus of any gun legislation.
"At this time, I do not see a need for any new legislation concerning guns and ownership," said Hampton. "If in the future, our elected representatives were to bring any forward, I would only support laws that strengthen the protection of gun owners."
