FLOYD COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — At least two officers and a police K9 were killed in a shootout between a suspect and law enforcement in Allen. Five more officers were injured, as well as an emergency management officer, according to an arrest citation.

Lance Storz, 49, of Allen was identified as the man taken into custody following the deadly shootout with police Thursday night.

He faces charges of attempted murder, two counts of murder of a police officer (one of which was attempted), and first-degree assault on a service animal.

A judge entered a not guilty plea to all accounts during an arraignment Friday morning. Preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 11. A public defender was appointed.

A cash bond is set at $10 million.

According to an arrest citation, Storz caused the death of at least two police officers at the scene, injured five additional police officers, injured an Emergency Management Director, and caused the death of one police canine.

The arrest citation says Storz used a rifle to fire multiple rounds at multiple officers around his residence on Main Street.

KSP Trooper Matt Gayheart says KSP was called to a scene to help officers after a shots-fired call turned into an active-shooter scene.

Kentucky State Police are handling this investigation.

Hunt said the incident stemmed from a domestic violence investigation call around 2 p.m. Thursday. Four Floyd County deputies went to the house on Railroad Street to serve an EPO. He said they immediately came under fire.

Hunt reports two officers were hit immediately. Multiple agencies were hit, estimating roughly five or six officers struck.

Injured officers were taken to hospitals in Prestonsburg, Lexington, and Huntington, WV.
