LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — On Wednesday morning, a local mattress company upgraded the way Lexington firefighters will get some much needed rest.

Locally-based Tempur Sealy is hoping their delivery will help Lexington first responders when it is time for them to spring into action.

A semi-sized delivery from Tempur Sealy was met with firefighters eager to help.

"I was at the station when they brought us the mattresses 14 years ago and I was excited. So, to have the new ones, I don't think there's very many people upset about trading in an old mattress for a new one," said Todd Houston, the Fraternal Order of Lexington Firefighters president.

The delivery filled firefighter's maintenance building to the brim with 250 Tempur-Pedic mattresses.

"So, I think there's probably in the neighborhood of 15 to 20 pallets here that are all 8 to 10 feet high... Told there's 250 plus mattresses. About 180 of which, the fire department here in Lexington will use and the rest are going to be used in fire departments in the surrounding counties," said Rick Maynard, a Tempur Sealy spokesperson.

Firefighters said that with their sleep schedule, this is much appreciated.

"Lexington is a fairly busy city. We make 48,000 EMS runs and 12,000 fire runs a year, so when the guys and gals want to sleep, it's nice to have a nice mattress to sleep on. So, this is going to help out on those nights when we are able to grab some sleep," said Houston.

For the company, making a local donation is very special.

"I think the key message here is, do what you can to support your hometown community. I think everybody can find a way to support the firefighters, the police officers, in some way. These guys and gals work really hard on our behalf and it means a lot to use to be able to give a little something back to them and a good night sleep!" said Houston.
