NEW YORK (PIX 11) — President Donald Trump was set to throw out the first pitch at the New York Yankees game on Aug. 15, but he canceled Sunday.

Trump said he did plan to make it later in the season.

"Because of my strong focus on the China Virus, including scheduled meetings on Vaccines, our economy and much else, I won’t be able to be in New York to throw out the opening pitch for the @Yankees on August 15th," he tweeted.

Infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci threw the ceremonial first pitch in the Yankees game on Thursday.

Trump celebrated opening day with Baseball Hall of Famer Mariano Rivera.

The return of sports is “a tremendous thing psychologically for our country,” he said.

Trump and the former New York Yankees joined Little League players on the White House lawn.
