LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — If you recently got a parking ticket on the University of Kentucky's campus and are dreading paying that fee, the university has an alternative solution.

For the fifth year, UK's Transportation Services is holding the 'Donations for Citations' collection. Instead of paying a parking ticket, you can donate items to the Big Blue Pantry, which helps UK students who are food insecure.

"Last year, we collected over 3,000 pounds of items for the pantry,” Communications Manager for UK Transportation Services Lisa Cleveland said. “Over the four years so far, we've donated over 10,500 pounds of food and personal care items. It's actually one of the pantry's largest food drives."

You can bring your donations to Transportation Services' customer care center at 721 Press Avenue. They'll accept ten food items or five personal care items to waive one regular citation.

“We don't waive things like parking illegally in an ADA spot or something like that, but if you have a regular $25 citation, you can bring those items in and help your fellow students at the same time,” Cleveland noted.

The collection runs through Friday, March 13th.
