NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WAVE/LEX 18) — Dr. Wayne Lewis Jr., who was Kentucky's education commissioner, has been hired as the dean at Belmont University less than a week after stepping down from his previous job.

Lewis was named as the dean of the School of Education at Belmont University on Monday, according to WAVE.

Lewis had been appointed as education commissioner by former Gov. Matt Bevin, but resigned on Dec. 12 after reaching an agreement with the board appointed by Gov. Andy Beshear.

According to WAVE, Lewis will start the job on Jan. 1.
