GRAYSON COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — A woman was arrested after malnourished horses were found on her property.

Deputies say they received multiple calls about malnourished horses which led them to responding to Shiloh Lee's property. That's where horses were found and described as "skin and bone."

Deputies say the horses were in such bad shape that one of them wasn't able to stand and another had to be euthanized.

Officials say Lee claims it was hard to put weight on the animals because they are old.

"When you see any animal suffering, you never want to have to do that. But it is in the best interest of the animal so it doesn't lay there and die," Norman Chaffin of the Grayson County Sheriff's Office said about putting one horse down.

I don't think that it was an intentional act, that she intentionally starved these horses," Chaffin continued. "I just don't think she had the funds or the income to buy feed for them."

Four horses were taken to a rescue mission in Leitchfield to recover. According to staff, the horses will require constant care in order to be healthy again.

Lee is facing animal cruelty charges.
