LOUISVILLE, Ky. (LEX 18/WAVE) — A woman died after being hit by a car on I-64 on Tuesday and has been identified.

WAVE reported that Louisville Metro Police spokeswoman Alicia Smiley said calls about the accident came in around 9 p.m. on Tuesday. The calls reported that a pedestrian had been hit and died on I-64 eastbound near the Hurstbourne exit.

When crews arrived on the scene, they found Averi Lewis, 27, of Richmond. She had been hit and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to WAVE.

Lewis was a passenger in an SUV and was in an argument with the driver. WAVE reported that she had jumped out of the vehicle at some point and ran across the interstate, where she was hit by another vehicle.

WAVE reported that the driver of the SUV and the driver that hit Lewis both stayed at the scene.

Officials are still investigating to see if alcohol could have been a factor in why Lewis left the vehicle.

According to WAVE, there were no other injuries and no charges are expected.
