LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Josiah Myers will be the first to tell you that before the coronavirus pandemic hit, his thoughts weren't exactly geared towards a non-profit business.

The Ohio native is the CEO of AIRRIVA, a company that owns and operates vacation homes. They, like so many others in the industry, were in a tough spot with shutdowns. The company's nearly 150 homes were down from a 95% to 10% occupancy.

The staff brainstormed that initial shutdown week when everything seemed to move so quickly, and ultimately the idea for the Caregiver Shelter Fund was created.

"The first healthcare employee was actually for profit," said Myers. "Then once we saw them in the unit it was gleaming in front of our face that there are caregivers that need isolation."

The fund has partnered with Doubletree and Holiday Inn Express' to offer 150-200 units in each market. There is housing available in Lexington and the company is open to property owners reaching out and learning if they can be a housing partner.
