LINCOLN COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — The NTSB walked reporters through their plans to investigate the pipeline explosion in Lincoln County and asked for witnesses with video and photos of the explosion to reach out and contact them.
The spokesperson for the NTSB did give some history on the pipeline that exploded. The line was constructed in 1957 and runs from Ohio to Mississippi. They will have multiple organizations working with the investigation and have specialists in metallurgy, pipeline operations and emergency response.
Spokesperson Mike Hiller said that the goal of the investigation was not only to find out what happened but how to prevent something so tragic from happening again.
The explosion happened just after 1:20 a.m. in the Moreland community. It could be seen and felt for miles.
One person was killed and six were injured. Five residences were destroyed and others suffered significant damage. Officials evacuated about 75 people from the nearby Indian Camp mobile home park.
The NTSB is asking that anyone who has video or photos of the explosion and its aftermath to send their files via email to witness@ntsb.gov.
