PERRY COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — A crash that happened on Friday morning in Perry County has left one dead and two injured, according to police.

Police said that initially, they determined that a person driving a 2002 GMC Yukon was traveling south on KY 463 and crossed the center line, causing a collision with a 2001 Kenworth dump truck.

The dump truck was being driven by Walker Johnson, 45. The person driving the Yukon continued traveling south but entered a curve on the wrong side of the road, causing a collision with a 1998 Freightliner dump truck driven by Richard Mitchell, 40.

The driver of the Yukon, Timmy Coots, 47, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Perry County Coroner's Office.

Two passengers in the Yukon, Robert Caudill and Jasmine Cornett, were airlifted to Holston Valley Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.

Johnson and Mitchell were not injured.

Police said that seat belts were not being used and impairment is suspected as a factor in the collisions.

An autopsy was scheduled to be performed at the State Medical Examiner's Office in Frankfort, Kentucky.
