Police: 1 dead after crash, suspected alcohol usage may be a factor

(LEX 18) — According to police, one person has died in a wreck that happened on Tuesday.

Officers were called to a crash in Wayne County on KY HWY 167.

When they arrived, officers found that a 2003 Dodge Pickup was traveling southbound and lost control, dropped off the right shoulder of the highway and traveled over an embankment striking several trees.

The driver of the pickup has been identified as Bennan J. Chriswell, 18, of Monticello.

Chriswell was flown to the University of Kentucky hospital where he is receiving treatment for his injuries.

The passenger, Sarah E. Catron, 16, of Alpha was flown to the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

Alcohol usage is suspected to be a factor in the collision, according to police.

KSP is continuing to investigate the crash.
