MERCER COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) - — Police are not giving up on the 42-year-old disappearance of Melanie Flynn. On Friday, officers spent hours pumping out an old septic tank in Mercer County where they've been searching for weeks.
Police have been digging around the old campground for about a month and still there's no sign of Flynn. Police say the investigation is far from over at Murphy's Landing. Police hope persistence pays off for hours. Officers are focused on getting to the bottom of a ten foot deep septic tank behind the Old Murphy's Restaurant on the river.
A truck spent several hours pumping sewage from it. At one point police hoisted a light down the tank to get an even better look inside it.
Sadly, they saw nothing but police aren't discourage. This investigation is one that must use a process of elimination. Credible tips claim Flynn was buried in a tank somewhere on the property.
Many believe Flynn's disappearance is linked to some of the players in Lexington's infamous Blue Grass Conspiracy. It's believe she knew too much about the multi-million dollar drug ring that involved corrupt Lexington police officers and well-connected members of the community.
Police are not giving up. They know suspects in the case had connections to property in the area. The hunt for answers will continue.
