SCOTT COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — The woman charged in a deadly Scott County stabbing was in court for a preliminary hearing Thursday afternoon.

Police say that Matthew Turner was stabbed to death outside a home on Iron Loop path in Georgetown on July 30. He had reportedly filed a protective order against his ex-girlfriend Cassandra Carson. Police say that the couple had a history of domestic violence. She was charged in Dearborn County, Indiana last summer where court records say she hit Turner and injured his knee.

Carson was arrested and is facing multiple charges, including manslaughter.

In court, a detective testified that Carson told him she threw a knife at Turner from across the room during an argument. She said he was hit in the neck.

"From my experience, from that distance it would be extremely hard to throw a knife from that far across the room with that type of wound," said Detective Lewis Crump with Georgetown Police.

Police believe that Carson stabbed Turner from up close and behind, because of the downward angle of the wound. Off camera, friends of Carson told LEX 18's Leigh Searcy that Turner was the aggressor in the relationship, but his family denies that.

The case is headed to a grand jury.
