A lot of people are reflecting on the life and career of Britney Spears these days, and country music legend Shania Twain is among them.  On a recent episode of her Apple Music podcast Home Now Radio, Twain revealed that she is a fan of the pop princess.

“’Hit me, baby, one more time.’ Oh yeah,” Twain said. “Britney Spears. I don’t sound like her, but I sing along to her records.”

And although the two women’s musical styles could not be more different, Twain mentioned that she was inspired by Spears’ performance during her Las Vegas residency. Before the country singer launched her own Las Vegas residency show in 2019, Twain said that she went to see Spears’ “Britney: Piece of Me” show several times.

“She was initially in Zappos Theater where I ended up myself and I loved the room,” Twain said. “I thought her show was great and I was motivated to get on that same stage, so her show inspired me a lot. It was a fantastic show.”

The theater inside Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino where they both performed isn’t the only time that Twain’s and Spears’ careers have intersected. Back in the early 2000s, the country star co-wrote “Don’t Let Me Be the Last to Know,” a song that Spears recorded for her sophomore album, “Oops! … I Did It Again.”

“She was very sweet. It was a great experience just to get to know her on a behind-the-scenes level a little bit. It was obviously an honor to have her record some of my songwriting … Britney did a beautiful job with the song,” she told Fuse.TV in 2017 of the experience.

Although Twain did not touch on any of the controversy currently surrounding Spears on her podcast, other celebrities have vocalized their opinions of the #FreeBritney movement in recent weeks. This comes in light of an episode of the documentary series “The New York Times Presents” called “Framing  Britney Spears,” which is available on Hulu. Fellow singers Vanessa Carlton, Bette Midler, Courtney Love, and Liz Phair are just some of the famous names to show their support for Spears on social media.
