KNOX COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) – Lynn Camp Schools’ longtime basketball coach passed following a battle with kidney cancer.

Knox County Public Schools Superintendent released a statement on the death of Richard Jones.

Dear Knox County Schools Family,

It is with great sorrow that I inform you that Coach Richard Jones, a longtime educator and
girls basketball coach at Lynn Camp Schools, passed away this morning following a battle
with kidney cancer.

To his family, I extend my condolences on the loss of a husband, father, and great man.
Coach Jones was the face of Lynn Camp Schools in many ways, proudly supporting the
Wildcats both athletically and academically. His reach extended beyond the school walls and
into the community. Coach Jones will be greatly missed by all.

Funeral arrangements will be conducted at Lynn Camp Middle/High. We will keep you
updated as we receive further information.

Please keep the Jones family and his Lynn Camp Schools family in your thoughts and
prayers.

It’s the second tragedy this year for the school. The assistant coach of Lynn Camp’s football team, Brian Justice, passed away in a car crash in October.
