EKU falls short on the road to Murray St.

MURRAY, Ky. — Eastern Kentucky University’s men’s basketball team lost 74-62 at Murray State University on Thursday at the CFSB Center.

EKU will close out the 2019-20 regular season schedule at home on Saturday against rival Morehead State. Tip-off at McBrayer Arena is scheduled for 7 p.m.

After staging a late first half rally to erase a seven-point deficit, the Colonels (14-16, 11-6 OVC) went into the locker room at the break tied 29-29.

Eastern scored eight of the first 10 points in the second half to take a 37-31 lead. A lay-up by Michael Moreno gave EKU the six-point advantage. However, the Racers (21-8, 14-3 OVC) scored 11 unanswered, going in front 42-37 on a lay-up and free throw by Tevin Brown with 14:43 to go.

The Colonels went back on top by two, 44-42, on a lay-up from Jomaru Brown, and again, 46-44, when Brown hit a jumper. With the game tied 48-48, MSU’s Tevin Brown hit on a lay-up and the Racers led the rest of the way.

Jomaru Brown scored a game-best 24 points for Eastern Kentucky. He was 8-for-18 from the field and 7-of-10 at the free throw line. Moreno scored 11 points. Lachlan Anderson pulled down 10 rebounds.

Tevin Brown led Murray State with 21 points to go along with 10 rebounds and four assists. KJ Williams contributed 20 points and 14 rebounds.

EKU shot 36 percent from the field while the Racers put in 40 percent of their shots. The Colonels made just 3-of-20 (15 percent) from behind the arc.
