LEXINGTON, Ky.  (LEX 18) — It’s been a week tinged with tragedy, but University of Kentucky football fans are making the most of a devastating situation.

After a stunning victory over Mississippi State, Coach Mark Stoops announced that he will present the game ball to the family of 4-year-old Marco Shemwell.

Marco was hit and fatally injured in an alleged drunk driving incident during last Saturday’s game.

“Glad we played well for Marco and the Shemwell family. We’re delivering the game ball to the Shemwell family.” Stoops said during the post-game conference.

He and team members will serve as honorary pallbearers at the funeral tomorrow.

A moment of silence was held for the Shemwell family before the game started.
