LEXINGTON, Ky. — KY Shines #TeamKentucky Virtual Half Marathon gives area runners, walkers & hikers a safe way to “race” while giving back to organizations responding to the COVID-19 pandemic.

RaceRise and Kentucky Shines Realty announce the KY Shines #TeamKentucky Virtual Half Marathon as a way for area runners, walkers and hikers to stay healthy during the COVID-19 pandemic. Registrants will have from March 28th to May 2nd to complete their own half marathon (13.1 miles) either as one run, walk, hike or treadmill workout or broken up into smaller segments (i.e. 13 one mile walks).

The “virtual” aspect of the race calls on registrants to do their half marathon solo or with close friends while practicing social distancing. All registrants agree to follow the CDC Guidelines related to the pandemic. Those who complete the 13.1 miles will receive a commemorative shirt, finisher's medal and race bib mailed to them in late April and in time for our traditional Derby Day on May 2nd (The last day of the event).

Partial proceeds and donations made by participants will benefit God's Pantry Food Bank and the Team Kentucky Fund (A fund established by Governor Andy Beshear to help those most impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic).

Registration is available online until Monday, April 27th at midnight at www.RaceRise.com.

Online registration opened on Monday, March 23rd and within one week over 1,300 runners, walkers and hikers have registered. Our goal is to have 3,000 participants complete their half marathon.

The “virtual race” is being organized by RaceRise, a local Lexington timing and sports management company focused on building a healthy community while giving back to worthy local charities.
