LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Lexington police were able to recover a bird that was stolen from a local pet store last month.

The theft happened on June 24. Surveillance video from Most Valuable Pets in Beaumont showed a man putting the bird in his pocket while an associate was busy. The man had purchased a parakeet for his children who were in the store with him. While the worker prepared the parakeet's food, the man committed the crime.

Associates said the man gave store employees a fake name and address.

Within ten minutes, employees realized the lovebird was missing. The parakeet was $24 while the love bird was valued at over $200.

Wednesday, Lexington police were able to identify the man in the video and recover the animal.

"GUESS WHO'S BACK?! 😄 Today our baby lovebird, who was stolen from our store on June 24, was returned to us by the Lexington Police Department! We cannot thank LPD enough for the hard work they put in to bring the baby back to us," the store wrote in a social media post.

Neither the name of the suspect nor the charges he may face have been released.
