It’s been a busy few days with LEX 18’s Derby Coverage (not to mention all the rain) so the April Weather Recap fell by the wayside. No worries though…I got you. Let’s take a look at how April 2019 went down in the weather.

April 2019 will be known as a warm and wet month. We did start off pretty cold, but the tables turned quickly and after a drier than normal March, the April showers lived up to the hype.

Temperature
April ended up being quite a bit warmer than normal. Both morning lows and afternoon highs averaged out in the top 15 warmest categories. The mean temperature for the month was 59.1 degrees making April 2019 tied for the 8th warmest on record. Other years matching were 1941, 1925, and 1915. The warmest temperature recorded was 83 degrees on the 11th. The morning of the first saw the coolest temperature of 25 degrees.

Precipitation
Rainfall was prevalent through the month with about half of the days seeing some fall. 14 of those days were measurable of at least 0.01.” The highest daily amount was 1.05” recorded on two separate days, April 14th and 19th. The rainfall on those two days alone accounted for 48% of the precipitation for the entire month. We ended with 4.39” which was 0.79” above average.

Snowfall
No snow was recorded in the month of April. The average for the month is 0.3.”
