The Lexington Shambhala Center holds family and winter solstice celebration

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — The Lexington Shambhala Center celebrated the winter solstice with a slate of activities for kids.

On Sunday the center held a family open house.

The day included yoga lessons, cookie decorating and mandala building.

The event was also geared towards celebrating winter solstice, which falls on Saturday December 21st. The winter solstice is the longest day and darkest night of the year which is celebrated by people of the Buddhist faith.

The festivities ended with a feast provided by the Shambhala Center.

The center invites children to come learn about things like mindfulness and meditation every Sunday.
