LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Volunteers are needed for the 2019 Kentucky River Clean Sweep.

The Clean Sweep will be Saturday, July 27, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Volunteers will collect trash from the 12 miles of the Kentucky River that border Fayette County.

Volunteers will get breakfast and lunch, as well as t-shirts. Door prizes will also be awarded. Trash bags and gloves will be provided for all volunteers.

The city says that volunteers should gather at the Clays Ferry Boat Dock off KY 25 under the I-75 overpass starting at 8:30 a.m.

They say to use the address 9079 Old Richmond Road in Lexington if you are using a GPS to get there. They will have signs up directing people to the parking area.

Volunteers should dress for the weather as the event is rain or shine. Participants should wear clothing that can get wet, as well as boots or closed-toed shoes.

There will be a limited number of life vests available for participants to borrow, so if you have one of your own, please bring it.

Volunteers under 18 years of age must have a liability release waiver signed by their parent or guardian. Waivers will be provided at the registration tent on the day of the River Sweep or can be downloaded from the registration website and brought to the event.

The event is in need of boats, please email louisec@lexingtonky.gov if you are bringing a boat.

The event is sponsored by the city of Lexington, the Kentucky River Authority and the Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission.
