Turning Cooler This Weekend

Here’s the good, not so great, and bad news about the weekend.

Good news: we’re dry with increasing amounts of sunshine!
Not so great news: Cooler than normal with highs near 60°.
Bad news: Freeze/frost threat Sunday morning.

A pair of moisture-starved cold fronts will track through the Bluegrass one right after the other – the first this evening followed by a second Saturday morning. This evening’s front will bring an increase in clouds and a chance for a few sprinkles. Skies will then quickly clear overnight. The next boundary follows right in line Saturday morning. Again, little to no chance for rain, but there will be more clouds followed by a drop in temperature. We will settle for a high of 60° with more late-day sunshine tomorrow. Skies will continue clearing Saturday night, which will allow temperatures to dive into the low to mid 30s. That sets up a freeze or frost threat across the area. If you planted last weekend, cover up or bring in your plants. Sunday will be bright but still on the cool side.

Following the cool weekend, we are tracking a big warm up for Derby Week! Highs will rocket towards 80 degrees by Wednesday with plenty of sunshine through mid-week. The pattern flips as we eye Oaks and Derby. We are tracking showers and storm chances starting Thursday, which could linger through next Saturday.
