June Ends with More Storms and Heat

Posted

Weather headlines this week: unsettled through mid-week, then getting hazy, hot, and humid.

A series of disturbances will roll through the Bluegrass starting overnight and continuing through mid-week. Scattered storms will arrive after midnight tonight and linger throughout Monday. Torrential rain, gusty winds, and some small hail will be possible. Storms will taper off late Monday. We are tracking a brief break from storms Tuesday as a mid-level ridge slides over the Commonwealth. Wednesday will be another unsettled day as a cold front nudges through the Ohio Valley.

The heat is on leading into the start of July. A big ridge will be centered over Kentucky starting Thursday. This ridge will "block" storms and keep our days hazy, hot, and humid. We are tracking several consecutive days with highs in the low 90s at the end of the latest 8-Day Forecast. Combining this heat with nearly oppressive humidity, the heat index could very easily approach the century mark in a number of spots next weekend.
