We’re heading into an active weekend as showers & storms fire up and the heat backs off. Friday will start it off with the chance for a few strong to severe afternoon/early evening storms, mainly from the Bluegrass into northern counties. Damaging wind gusts will be the primary threat. The severe threat index is elevated to 1, a slight risk Friday but the threat should rapidly diminish after sunset.

As the front settles south overnight higher humidity as well as summer-like heat will take five, expect highs in the upper 80s Friday but only in the upper 60s to low 70s Saturday with more scattered showers & storms, especially southeast. Expect additional rounds of showers, strong storms and locally heavy rain late in the weekend into next week as multiple fronts track our way. Fall officially begins Saturday night at 9:54 PM.
