Big changes begin today. We are tracking a strong cold front to march across the Commonwealth over the next 24 hours. This front will wipe away “summer” and usher in much, much cooler days. Temperatures will crash behind the front. Today’s highs will be near 80°. We are tracking highs in the mid 60s Thursday followed by highs only in the upper 50s Friday. Brisk and crisp morning will become a regular occurrence.

Thunderstorms will be possible as we make the transition. A few gusty storms may pop-up later today and continue overnight. Otherwise, the Bluegrass will see widespread showers with locally heavy rain through Thursday morning. The cold front will exit eastern Kentucky by mid-day Thursday.

Along with our big pattern change, we are tracking Hurricane Michael to make landfall as a major hurricane later today along the Florida Gulf coast. Michael will bring destructive winds and a devastating storm surge the panhandle through the “big bend.”
