Bracing for the Coldest Air of the Season

We will briefly warm up Monday before some big-time winter weather headlines the rest of the work week forecast. A strong Arctic front will plunge through Kentucky Monday night into Tuesday. There will be a brief period Monday evening, likely after the evening commute, that precipitation falls as rain. Everything will quickly change to snow Monday night as much, much colder air rushes in. Minor accumulations are possible for the Bluegrass. Higher amounts are expected for southeastern counties. A Winter Storm Watch has been already issued for southeastern counties.

The “polar vortex” will then pay the eastern half of the country a visit. We are tracking the coldest air of the season for the middle of the week. Starting Monday night temperatures will remain below freezing until at least late Friday. Lows will be near 0°, while highs only manage the teens on Wednesday.
