Winter roars back in today as a big storm system races across the Southeast. This fast-moving low will bring periods of rain and snow to the area through the afternoon. It will be mostly rain down south, more snow north. That leaves the Bluegrass in the middle of a mix of rain and snow through the middle of the day.
Later today colder air will pour in. This will change the mix over to all snow. Light snowfall amounts will be possible for areas north of I-64. Lexington’s accumulation will be close to an inch. Snow will end this evening. A Winter Weather Advisory will remain in effect through tonight for areas near and north of I-64. Watch out for slick spots this evening through Monday morning.
The other part of the story is the cold. We’ll be in the teens with wind chills in the single digits as you step out Monday morning. Temperatures will remain freezing through Thursday afternoon, at the earliest.
