It may have taken summer a little while to get going, but it has certainly arrived here in late June. For the third straight day highs were in the 90s around central Kentucky. The heat and humidity get carried over into the holiday week. Monday will be the hottest day of this heat wave with highs in the lower 90s and heat indices in the mid 90s. Our streak of 90-degree highs will end on Tuesday, but it will still remain steamy through the 4th of July.
Today has also brought isolated thunderstorms across the area. These storms will fizzle after sunset. The holiday week will begin with chances for pop-up thunderstorms. There will be an uptick in storm coverage as the week goes on. I wouldn’t cancel your picnic or fireworks plans, but there will be storms around on the 4th of July. Despite daily thunderstorm chances beginning on Wednesday there won’t be much relief from the summer heat. High temperatures will only drop back into the mid 80s through next weekend.
