Lexington police respond to more than 100 collisions, mayor encourages residents to avoid travel

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Mayor Linda Gorton says people should avoid travel Thursday evening as police respond to several motor vehicle accidents on Christmas Eve.

The Lexington Police Department says drivers should use extreme caution and travel only if necessary tonight.

Between 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Lexington Police say they have responded to:

  • 123 non-injury collisions
  • 12 collisions with injuries
  • 25 calls for motorist assist
  • 13 weather-related traffic hazards

Armstrong Mill Road between Crosby and Grace and Wilson Downing Road between Ridge Point Run and Camelot Drive is currently shut down due to icy conditions.

Lexington road crews are out treating bridges, overpasses, and roads that are snow and ice-covered.
