Wonderful fall weather for Derby Day

It’s no doubt a strange Derby Day, and not just because it’s happening on Labor Day Weekend. Probably stranger is the weather running so nice for the entire day. I’m kidding obviously, but it’s been a while since we’ve had a nice Derby Day. In fact, not just nice, but perfect! Things are starting mild this morning with a fall tinge to the air thanks to low humidity.

As we race through Derby Day, you’ll be feeling the full effects of early fall. A nicely timed cold front late-week brough in a Canadian air mass which kept us cooler yesterday than normal but will keep us drier today. That, mixed with sunshine, will make for one of the best Run for the Roses days we’ve seen in a while. In fact, the last “nice” Derby was five years ago when we registered no rain, with a high similar to what we will get today. The only difference was it was partly cloudy that day. Today will be sunny. Nice weather will continue through Labor Day Weekend and through the holiday as well. Sunshine should stick around through midweek before we start to see any real changes. A front will try to make a run at us Monday, however the high pressure over us will do well to break it down. That is the same front bringing record cold and snow to the Rockies after days of intense heat and fire weather. That cold punch of air will shift east and we will have another cooler than normal weekend coming up, after late-week rain.
