The pattern remains summery with warm mornings, hot afternoons, and an occasional thundershower that pops up from the heat of the day. The morning is starting in the warm low 70s and the MaxTrack is clear, thanks to the “cool down” overnight. Some low-lying cloud coverage is showing up in southeastern river valleys.
The heat wave will continue as scheduled with this morning’s 70-degree warmth heating up to the low 90’s yet again. As a weak front sags south, our eastern counties will have the best shot at developing showers and thundershowers. Heavy downpours and lightning will be the two biggest threats as they pass from north to south. The heat wave will continue to be hot through the coming week. We will only see a cool down of a few degrees between Monday and Friday. As we approach the middle of the work week, humidity will ramp up higher allowing for better chances for rain and thunderstorms. What this also does is raise the heat index. Each afternoon will have dew point values running in the low to mid-70s. This will make the low 90s and upper 80s feel more like the mid to upper 90s all week. Practice good heat safety techniques.
