(LEX 18) — "Do you remember a time when the world fell asleep," is the first line of the sibling duo's song, "Let us Breathe Again."
The Theo and Brenna Band wrote the song at the height of the pandemic.
"Nobody knew what was going on," Brenna MacMillan said. "People were fighting over toilet paper still, you know? Like very strange shutdown fears going on and then people just losing their jobs right and left. A lot of our friends, you know, having to find different means for financial support."
The inspiration for the song flowed as they watched the chaotic world around them. It also came unexpectedly: through the experience of watching a Robin lay eggs on their windowsill.
"The humans are being strange, but at least the world of animals is going on like nothing's happening," Brenna said.
They documented it all on Instagram.
The family of birds also inspired an animated lyric video for the song.
Just like their windowsill visitors, Theo and Brenna both believe we will all "breathe again."
"We don't have to completely despair that life is never going to be hopeful again," Theo said. "It may never be what it was again. It may be different than it was before, but that doesn't mean we don't have hope for the future."
Looking ahead to their future, they said they are looking forward to collaborations with various artists. Brenna added that she couldn't wait to get back out on stage to perform live regularly.
In the meantime, the two have other jobs that have helped them through the pandemic:
Theo and Brenna are Winchester natives who started singing at a very young age. They said their mother instilled a passion for music in them:
