GEORGETOWN, Ky. (LEX 18) — Back to school means back to the classroom for Scott County students, at least for those who chose in-person classes over online or pen-to-paper instruction.

In preparation for the August 26 reopening, Scott County Schools Superintendent Dr. Kevin Hub is hiring more school nurses.

"If we hire six new nurses that's going to allow us to have a nurse in every school," said Hub on Friday.

While larger districts such as Fayette and Jefferson Counties, are going to all virtual classes, Hub believes in-person instruction is better for student learning and can be done safely at school.

While coronavirus cases surge in Kentucky and the country, it is possible Gov. Andy Beshear could order schools closed. If so, Hub says his team will be ready to do all online instruction.

"If he mandates that public schools shut down, then we will certainly follow the governor's mandate," said Hub.
