FCPS Superintendent Dr. Demetrus Liggins provided the following statement to parents regarding the continued cancellation of school:
FCPS Families and Staff, As we continue to navigate the challenges of this winter season together, I want you to know that every decision we make regarding our school schedules is guided by a single priority: the safety of our students and staff. We are closely and continuously monitoring weather and road conditions across Fayette County and will continue to work in partnership with city officials to assess when it is appropriate to safely resume normal operations. Together, we are working to combat the effects of the cold weather, snow, and ice. As many of us have experienced while clearing our own driveways and sidewalks, snow and ice removal are very different challenges. While snow can often be cleared quickly, ice requires extra time and specific temperatures to treat effectively to ensure our buses and families can travel safely. With more cold temperatures and wintry weather in the forecast, we are remaining proactive in our monitoring. We will return to in-person learning and activities as soon as it is determined to be safe for our students and staff to travel to and from school. We will continue to keep you updated through our website, social media, and direct messaging. Thank you for your continued patience and support as we work to make the best possible decisions for our school community. We truly value your partnership in keeping our students safe and our district moving forward together. Sincerely, Demetrus Liggins, Ph.D. Superintendent see less
