LOUISVILLE, Ky. (LEX 18) — In honor of the first Kentucky Derby in 1875, the Galt House hotel in Louisville is giving away a weekend at the Derby for only $1.75 a night.
"There's no place that would offer you what the Galt House does over the weekend. We will have the largest room inventory to have the biggest party in town. We start early, we go late, lots of activities throughout the entire weekend," said Galt House General Manager Patrick Gregory.
The historic Galt House dates back to the 1800s but has been undergoing a complete renovation.
"The original Galt House constructed by Al J. Schneider began construction in 1972. It was a single tower, and then they added the second tower a few years later," Gregory explained. "Today the property has 1300 guest rooms; a hundred and 30,000 square feet of meeting space, and the renovation will encompass all of that. It's really excited about taking the old history of the hotel and then really given the old lady--the old dame--a new dress."
For Derby weekend this year, the goal at the Galt House will be to take guests back in time.
"Festivities really start on Thursday, we'll have a selection of old fascinators and hats that'll be on display from prior Derbies. People always like to see those memorabilia pieces. We'll do live music throughout the hotel, on the Thursday, Friday and Saturday," said Gregory.
Only one person will be granted the $1.75 rate and the winner will be announced March 10.
