Lexington chef receives James Beard Award Nomination

(LEX 18) — Lexington restaurateur Ouita Michel has been nominated for a prestigious James Beard Restaurant and Chef Awards.

Michel finds herself on a list of nominees in the category of "Outstanding Restaurateur." She owns seven restaurants in Lexington and the surrounding counties, including Wallace Station and Honeywood.

According to their website, the Beard awards recognize culinary professionals in the United States. Each award winner receives a certificate and a silver medallion engraved with the James Beard Foundation Awards insignia.

Two other Kentuckians also received nods: Annie Pettry of Decca in Louisville received a nod for "Best Chef" and Drew Kulsveen and Willet Distillery for "Outstanding wine, spirits or beer producer."
