LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Lexington police responded to a shooting Tuesday morning on Newtown Pike.

It happened at the Motel 6 just off New Circle Road at around 9 a.m. Tuesday. Police say a man, who was not a guest at the motel, was shot in the leg and transported to the UK Trauma Center. The suspects got away by car, and police called for a helicopter to help locate them before calling that part of the search off.

Fortunately for the victim, detectives were already in the area on an unrelated matter.

"One guy got hit at least once," said Lt. Andrew Daugherty with the Lexington Police Department. "The one victim told us there were suspects and he gave us descriptions, and we're running down those leads right now. He is at UK Trauma Center only because we had a detective who put a tourniquet on like that, so that may very well be what saved him."

Police would not release the make and model of the vehicle the suspects were driving and couldn't provide a reason for the shooting.
