Planners consider major Red River Gorge resort project

(LEX 18) — Local planners discussed a project that would bring a major resort to the Red River Gorge.

The Red River Economic Development Board of Managers was met Friday in Stanton.

Plans are still only at the research level and nothing has been approved for construction.

So far, the only decision made today was to hire a company called, Stantec to survey the surrounding area to prepare a multi-city master plan for the Gorge project

A firm was chosen that will survey the surrounding area prepare a multi-city tourism master plan for the Gorge project.

The gorge project has been controversial with community members.

The meeting was held at the Powell County Emergency Operations Center on Commerce Drive in Stanton.
