GEORGETOWN, Ky. (LEX 18) — The Georgetown Police Department has identified the two juveniles responsible for torturing and killing a cat at a home on Locust Street.

Police told LEX 18 on Sunday night that one of the minors has been booked into a juvenile detention center. Both are expected to be charged for animal cruelty.

The police department posted photos of the two involved in the incident on Sunday morning, taken from security footage of the incident from a homeowner.

The department did not post the original video, explaining the video was too graphic to share.

Neighbors said the cat was a "neighborhood cat," which everyone helped take care of and feed.

They were shocked to hear what happened to him overnight.

"He was the sweetest thing you could ever see. Loved everybody. Loved to be loved," said Patricia Walsh, who has lived in the neighborhood for years.

Amy Cheney, one of the residents of the home in front of which the incident occurred, said she couldn't even finish watching the video of the incident.

"[I] looked back at the footage and just could not believe a human had done that to him," Cheney said.

Cheney reported the incident to Georgetown police after finding the cat.

A number of other residents also reported seeing the cat around the neighborhood for years.
