LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Sav's Grill and West African Cuisine is back open after closing its South Limestone location back in July.
The opening comes after owner, Mamdou "Sav" Savane, closed the location that had been open for 11 years.
"Sometime you have to do what you have to do," Savane said.
He said he left because of a lack of parking and the newly opened UK Student Center that was hurting his business.
"It was getting a little scary, but God knows how to do things and I find this location," Savane said. "I'm so happy."
The new location on 630 East Main St. has more parking and it's allowed Savane to go from being a renter to an owner.
"Over there, every year they increase your rent and over here it's kind of different because I have a mortgage instead of rent," Savane said.
Savane tells LEX18 that he's excited for the future. He hopes to be in business in his new location for 25 years.
As for his ice cream shop on South Limestone, it will stay open until next next October. Then, he will have both businesses under one roof.
