Lexington, Ky. (LEX 18) – The Scott County football team will go head-to-head with Male Saturday with the 6A State Championship on the line.

For the Cardinals, it’s their first appearance in the state championship since they won it all back in 2013, a year that included a 23-14 win over Male in the State Semifinal.

For the Bulldogs, its their first appearance since they won it all back in 2015.

Both programs are no stranger to making it to the final game of the season.

Since 1998, Scott Co. and Male have made 12 appearances combined in the state title game.

As for 2018, both programs have also shown they can put points on the board.

Male is currently averaging 37 points per game while Scott Co. is averaging 36.4 points per game.

“We have an identity, we are who we are and we believe in what we do in all three phases of the game,” said Scott County head coach Jim McKee. “We’ll make a few changes here and there to try and take advantage of what a certain team does but you can’t reinvent yourself in a big football game.”

The 6A State Championship will kickoff at Kroger Field at 8pm Saturday night.
