Howard on Wade Trophy watch list

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kentucky guard Rhyne Howard has been added to the watch list for the Wade Trophy which goes to the top women's college basketball player.

This is the third major honor for Howard who had already been placed on the watch list for the John R. Wooden Award Top 30 and the Citizen Naismith Trophy Top 50. Those are all three major national player of the year watch lists in the preseason. The Wade Trophy is now in it's 43rd year and is the oldest and most prestigious award of the three. It's named for Delta State University head coach Lily Margaret Wade, who won three consecutive national championships with the Lady Statesmen.

Howard was the SEC Freshman of the Year last season has already gotten this season off to a fast start. In Kentucky's season-opening game, Howard didn't shoot the ball that well but posted incredible numbers with 14 points with 11 rebounds, five assists, five steals and two blocks.

Howard and the Wildcats play at Middle Tennessee Sunday at 3:00.
