EKU Golfers Sweep OVC Weekly Honors

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Eastern Kentucky University senior Edvin Lindgren was chosen as the Ohio Valley Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week on Wednesday.  Lindgren led the Colonels and tied for 4th overall in a field that included 78 players at the Health Plan Mountaineer Invitational.

Lindgren began the tournament with a 3-under 69 and followed it up with a 71 and a 75 for a total of 215 (1-under) for the tournament.

This the first time the Sweden native was chosen as OVC Men’s Golfer of the Week.

Eastern finished with a team total of 889, which was good enough for third place. The Colonels finished ahead of teams such as James Madison, Akron, Bowling Green, Boston College, and Georgetown.

The Colonels return to action when they travel to the Little Rock Invitational held by Arkansas-Little Rock on October 22-23.

 

Eastern Kentucky University senior Elsa Moberly was chosen as the Ohio Valley Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week on Wednesday.  Moberly led the Colonels and tied for 19th overall in a field that included 75 players at the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational.

Moberly began the tournament with back-to-back rounds of 72 before closing with a round of 75 to finish with a 3-over total of 219 for the tournament.

She helped fuel the team’s total of 882, which was the fifth lowest 54-hole total in program history.

Eastern Kentucky finished just one shot behind fifth place Notre Dame (881) and tied with Toledo (882). The Colonels finished higher than teams from Western Kentucky, East Tennessee, and Akron among others. The field consisted of five ranked teams in the final 2017-18 Golfstat rankings:  No. 22 Notre Dame, No. 54 Middle Tennessee State, No. 81 Penn State, No. 103 Kentucky, and No. 129 Western Kentucky. University of Indianapolis finished the year ranked No. 11 in Division-II.

The Colonels will return to the links when they play in the Palmetto Intercollegiate hosted by the College of Charleston Oct. 21-23.
